The parallels between “The Blob” and “a blog” stop with the name-play and the unstoppable nature they both seemingly possess. A blog, unlike the Blob, can’t get stopped by a fire extinguisher. Some might be scared of blogs, but that is more likely a fear of technology and it is unfounded. A blog is not a science fiction creature to be feared but a very powerful tool for communicating a message. Blogs are such an effective communication tool that even the Pope himself recognizes their usefulness and this weekend advocated that priests start using them to communicate the church’s message.
This is a blog. The term is a contraction of the term “web log”. With our blog we can better interact with existing customers while also attracting new customers. Our primary goal is to help you “better your website”. We intend to do this through our blog by sharing information about new and existing online tools and marketing opportunities. Most of our website consists of information regarding our website services. Here, in our blog, we get to communicate in a more personal tone and, when we choose, offer the opportunity to interact with an article by leaving comments. By disseminating and maintaining a high standard of useful information we further develop our reputation as being both reliable and helpful.
Blogs enhance client-customer communication. A blog is a great resource for finding out “what’s new”. Google started blogging in 2004 and their “network of blogs” now contains a plethora of information regarding numerous topics. You can learn a lot about different companies, vendors and even your competition by visiting their blog. Don’t have time to visit all these websites? That’s understandable. Blogs are fitted with a great featured called RSS (“Really Simple Syndication”) feeds. You can bring the blogs to you using a RSS reader. Many browsers and mail clients come with add-ons that let you read articles from blogs to which you have subscribed.
A Blog is naturally organized. Blogs are made up of posts or articles listed chronologically, listing newer entries first and archiving older articles. These articles can be assigned categories. How you use these categories is up to you. However, keep in mind that these categories are intended to be navigated, so simple is better. In addition, a blog can also be tagged with a label. These labels are used to describe sections within your article, not the entire article.
Hint: Tags can also be navigated. Make them useful. Avoid synonyms for a label already used. Use the same labels repeatedly. If done properly, relevant tags can replace a blog search.
Blogs are simple. The installation is relatively quick and a blog can be customized and styled as little or as much you want. Many blog publishing platforms have advanced to do much more than simply posting articles. You can create informational pages, calendar of events, post pictures, videos and much more. Blogs even rival how fast we can update your website. We are very efficient at making updates to our client websites, but with a blog you can add content immediately and as often as you want.
Increase your credibility. Everyone can be an author online. Anyone can share their thoughts and ideas. Blogs make this even easier. You can increase your credibility and reputation on a subject by maintaining a blog. Here are some ways to help increase your blogging credibility.
- Dress for success. It may or may not be fair, but a large portion of your website credibility will be determined by your website design and how you structure your information.
- Be honest and transparent. This can be as simple as having an About Us page and Contact Information. Feel free to pitch your services but focus on sharing helpful information.
- Write like you’re in school. Use spell check and correct grammar. Don’t plagiarize – reference reputable sources.
Write about relevant topics. If it is a personal blog, then you reserve the right to ramble. Businesses should plan more but you still get some ramble room. Keep it relevant. A good rule for both groups – don’t write anything you wouldn’t be willing to email to entire world.
